It's truly amazing to hear how the blankets that were made, by so many individuals, were given to children who don't have the most secure life, but find the security in something so simple as a blanket. Just being a small part of the impact in Mecosta County is worth all of the time and effort. I am proud to part of a community that cares. The tie blanket initiative started with Ferris Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter in 2015. The goal was to give Ferris PRSSA members an opportunity to serve the community, through partnership with Angels of Action, by matching the amount of blankets donated. The simple idea has ignited good-will over campus and in the Big Rapids community. The Volunteer Center, in the Ferris' Center for Leadership, Activities and Career Services at jumped in and donated materials for students to assist with the effort. The St. Mary and St. Paul Parish School in Big Rapids, also assembled tie blankets. Additionally, Angels of Action held its own event, and invited community members to participate and support with the cause. After about 60 blankets were tied up and ready to go, with ribbons and notes of warmth and love, the Angels of Action team delivered the blankets to eight Mecosta County elementary schools. The individual schools determine how the blankets will be used. The blankets may be used inside of the school or given to children in need. As vice president of Campus and Community Outreach during the 2016-17 year I have loved working with the wonderful volunteers at Angels of Action. The team is full of exceptional individuals who are passionate about making a positive change in the children's lives. I loved hearing the stories the team shared during the tie night from the previous year. I look forward to hearing about the children who received blankets from this year. It has been astonishing to coordinate this initiative for the child of the local community. This experience gave me the opportunity to work with an array of students, staff, administration, and community members. When I asked why they wanted to get involved the answer was about the same across the board, to help the children stay warm in Mecosta County.
